Melo Starts 2021 Recruiting Class with Binder

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield indoor volleyball team got its 2021 recruiting class started on National Signing Day when Lizzie Binder signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Roadrunners.

"Lizzie is a great addition to our program," said Giovana Melo, CSUB's Director of Volleyball. "We are thrilled to have her."

A 6-foot-2 outside hitter from Sheboygan, Wisc., Binder is set to join the `Runners in 2021. A talented athlete, Binder has enjoyed a standout prep career at Sheboygan North High School. A remarkable 2019 campaign led her to being named Conference Player of the Year after she earned a second-straight First Team All-Conference nod. Binder was also recognized nationally in 2020, taking a spot on the AVCA High School All-Region Team.

Melo went on to talk about what she saw in Binder during the recruiting process: "I truly believe she is going to make a big impact on our program, not only as a player but as a person as well. She has a lot of the intangibles you look for in an athlete. We can't wait to get her journey started!"

The 2019 season also featured an impressive milestone for Binder as the outside hitter became her school's all-time career leader in kills, surpassing the 1,000 kill mark. She helped her North HS squad win County Championships in 2017 and 2018 while her 2017 squad went on to earn a Regional title as well.

Binder also enjoyed great success in the club volleyball realm, where she spent several years with Milwaukee Sting Gold before playing the last two years with FC Elite. She helped her travel clubs win the World Challenge three-straight years and they also placed fifth at the 2013 National Championships. During her time with Milwaukee Sting Gold, Binder helped the club become Badger Region Champions five consecutive years.
