Cooper Adamo Awarded John Jay Institute Fellowship

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Cooper Adamo, a CSU Bakersfield graduate in mathematics and former track and field athlete, was recently awarded a Fellowship from the John Jay Institute in Longhorne, PA.

When asked what this opportunity means to him, Adamo replied, "Being accepted to the John Jay Fellows Program is an exceptional opportunity for me to grow as a thinker and leader in the civic and Christian arenas."

It is my hope," he added, "that the formation offered by this program may guide me and my generation for when the torch is passed down. I can faithfully say that what I gained from my academics & athletics at CSUB is what I will take with me to this program and the near future."

The four-month program is intended to prepare Fellows for careers in public service, whether they take place in the public, non-profit or for-profit sectors. Upon completion of the program, Fellows are placed in an externship depending on their interests. More information on the award can be found on their webpage.

Director of Track and Field Marcia Mansur-Wentworth was pleased when she heard the news and said: "I am so proud of Cooper, but not at all surprised. He is very intelligent and highly motivated with a desire for public service."

Adamo graduated in May 2020 Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Mathematics. He was awarded the CSUB Athletics Golden Circle Honor in 2020. Cooper was a long jumper and Bakersfield native and graduate of Bakersfield High School. He highlighted his track and field career as a WAC finalist in the long jump.

Mansur-Wentworth added, "Track and field graduated four women and two men in May 2020 and each of them are doing post graduate work. I couldn't be prouder of their academic success!"
