Rodriguez Gets Call From Ecuadorian National Team

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield's women's soccer player Dome Rodriguez has been named to the Ecuador women's full national team training roster. Rodriguez, a team leader and the Roadrunners starting center midfielder, is one of just 30 players from her country invited to the eleven-day practice camp next week.

Rodriguez would have had to choose to bypass the trip in order to stay with CSUB teammates for what would have been critical, late-season Big West Conference matches. But with a postponed season, the sophomore is eager to return home and make the most of her opportunity.

"It means a lot for me to be called up to my national team," Rodriguez expressed. "One of the biggest honors in soccer is being selected to represent your country and is a special honor not only for me but also my family to. Be to represent Ecuador! I am really excited to be given this opportunity and I really look forward to it."

Rodriguez has represented Ecuador on the youth national teams before, but this is her first time getting a call for the senior team. This invitation could open up a spot for Dome on the official Ecuadorian national team roster set to play in qualifiers for the 2023 FIFA world cup.

When asked to give his thoughts on her selection, Head Coach Sebastian Vecchio said: "Dome has worked extremely hard on the field and in the classroom since joining our team, she deserves this opportunity and I am confident she will do extremely well in that environment."

Bakersfield finished the 2019 season with a three-game unbeaten streak before bowing out of the conference first round to Rio Grande Valley in penalty kicks. The team won nine games overall last season, improving their win total by three, and will look to continue their upward trajectory when competition resumes.

"We have several players with National team experience on our roster," added Vecchio. "International soccer experience is something we look for during the recruiting process and we want the national team to be a goal for all our players, international and domestic."
