Swimming to Celebrate Seniors Versus UCSC

Bakersfield, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield Swimming and Diving teams will honor eight seniors prior to their dual meet with UC Santa Cruz on Saturday. Richie Campbell, Michael Hart and Noah Hultner will swim their final home meets for the Roadrunner men, while Alisa Cooke, Maddie Cosgrove, Jayssie Haynes, Alyssa Madero and Lea Salcio will represent the women's team one final time at the John S. Hillman Aquatic Center in tomorrow's meet.

"Senior day is always bittersweet," said CSUB Director of Swimming and Diving Chris Hansen. "This year's seniors have contributed so much over the past four years and they will all be greatly missed."

The `Runner women enter with a dual record mark of 3-4 and will look to pull back to .500 in head to head competition against UCSC. The Banana Slugs will be racing in their first dual meet of the season.

Haynes is coming off of her best week of the season. She won the 200 Free and the 200 Breaststroke in dual meet competition against San Jose State, before setting three season-best times at the tri-meet with UC San Diego and Loyola Marymount. Haynes enters her final home meet with 34 individual titles and four school records to her credit. She boasts the top times in CSUB history in the 200 Breaststroke, the 1000 Free, the 1650 Free and the 400 IM.

Cosgrove won the 200 Fly in each of the past two meets, giving her four victories in the event this season. The senior has won 21 career races for Bakersfield, including 16 in her bread and butter discipline in which she has twice earned All-Western Athletic Conference Second-Team accolades.

After battling early season injuries Cooke has been a stalwart on multiple `Runner relays of late. She has been a part of four relay teams over the course of her career that posted times among the five best in CSUB history and was the anchor of the 800 Free Relay that captured the WAC Championship in 2019.

Madero has been a mainstay for Bakersfield in the backstroke events, winning three times over the course of her career and ranking third in the CSUB Top-5 for the 200 Back. The senior has delivered three Top-3 finishes in backstroke disciplines with three coming last week in CSUB's duals with SJSU, UCSD and LMU.

Salcido will graduate with four Top-20 finishes at the WAC Championships. She has been a regular in the 100 Back, the 200 Back and the 100 Fly for the `Runners this season and was fourth in the 100 Back against SJSU in a time of 1:03.04.

Bakersfield will also look for contributions from Autumn D'Arcy, Tabea Mose and Mikayla Popham against the Banana Slugs.

D'Arcy has 17 individual wins this season, just three shy of the 20 she put up as a freshman in 2018-19. The Redlands, Calif., native needs seven more wins to surpass Paola Hernandez for the most single season wins by a CSUB female swimmer at the DI level.

Popham garnered three victories and a pair of runner-up finishes in the last week's dual meets, while Mose won the 100 Back in the SJSU meet and finished second in the event against UCSD and LMU.

The Bakersfield men fell to 2-2 after dropping their own dual with UCSD by a narrow 159-141 score. The `Runners received strong performances across the board and were competitive deep into the meet before the Tritons pulled away late.

Campbell delivered second-place points in the 50 Free with a time of 21.52. The result was his 15th career Top-5 finish in the event, four of which have been wins. Campbell has swam in three WAC finals over the course of his career at CSUB.

Hart was second in the 100 Fly against UCSD in a new personal best time of 48.37. It was the senior's tenth top-10 finish over the past two seasons. Hart has also been a regular on CSUB relay teams in his career, with three of those teams posting Top-5 times in school history.

Both Campbell and Hart qualified and swam the 50 Free at the Toyota US Open in December.

Hultner was a Second-Team All-WAC honoree in 2018 as a result of his fourth-place finish in the 1650 Free. A distance specialist, he also boasts has eight career wins in the 1000 Free.

Loren Gillilan won three events against UCSD. He opened the meet with a blistering time (1:51.04) in the 200 Fly winning every split and finishing nearly five seconds ahead of the field. He also won the 100 Fly (48.33) and the 100 Free (46.10).

Kris Rogic enters Saturday's competition as the reigning WAC Swimmer of the Week after posting a pair of victories against the Tritons. The junior captured the 200 Back in a time of 1:49.86 and clocked a 1:51.24 in the 200 IM. He added a second-place finish in the 100 Back when he was out-touched at the wall by just one hundredth of a second.

Adam Estrella added an individual victory in the 1-meter diving competition for the `Runner men.

Following Saturday's competition, Bakersfield will travel to Fresno Pacific with both the men and women swimming in one final dual meet before training ramps up in earnest for the 2020 WAC Championship Meet in Houston, Tex.
