Rogic Finishes Third in Heat, 36th Overall in South Korea

GWANGJU, South Korea – Competing in the FINA World Championships for the first time, CSU Bakersfield junior swimmer Kris Rogic finished 36th overall in the 50-meter backstroke, completing the race in 25.91.

Rogic took third in the fourth of eight heats on Saturday morning in South Korea and finished just .08 seconds behind the heat winner.

"I have been coaching for a very long time and what Kris has done the last seven months is not easy," said CSUB Director of Swimming Chris Hansen.  "This is the fourth shave in seventh months and he was right on his best time and just .06 seconds of the Croatian national record.  This has been a great experience for him and I am so proud of him I can't even express it.  He has crossed the line to the world level and can come home to share his experience with all of the CSUB athletes.  He is a champion! He has now decided to go to Croatia and swim in their nationals next week, then take a much needed three week break until we start again."

Last year at the Croatian national meet, Rogic won national titles in the 50 back (26.29), 100 back (56.10), 200 back (2:04.12) and the 200 individual medley (2:05.11).
