Threlkeld Top College Finisher, Resets Personal-best in 400-meter

IRVINE, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield men and women's outdoor track and field teams had a very solid outing at UC Irvine's Steve Scott Invitational that hosted 900 athletes this weekend. Junior mid distance runner Curtis Thelkeld lead the way for the Roadrunners on Saturday.

Two weeks from conference championships Threlkeld had competed in the 800- and 1,500-meter races but hadn't ran in the 400-meter – until today. He recorded a personal-best (47.45) in the event, was the top college finisher, and now ranks eleventh on the program depth chart.

Gabe Gaeta ran a season-best of 52.90 in the 400-meter hurdles after missing four meets this year for academic obligations. Bakersfield's men's 4x4-meter relay ran it first race of the season in preparation for Outdoor Championships and finished sixth overall which would have garnered all-conference honors for the group. The men's leg order went Gabe Gaeta, Curt Threlkeld, JJ Flores, and Ronnie LeSure

Corbin Chronister will throw at a condensed meet in Fullerton next week before both teams head to the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 9-11.
