Gillilan Wins 100 Fly, Rogic Breaks School Record

CLEVELAND, Ohio – For the second consecutive night, sophomore CSU Bakersfield swimmer Loren Gillilan topped the podium at National Invitation Championships and classmate Kris Rogic broke his own school record in the 100-yard backstroke as the Roadrunners continued to impress in Cleveland.

"It was another great night for the men," said CSUB Director of Swimming Chris Hansen.  "Loren winning his second race of the weekend and Kris breaking his school record is really great for CSUB's future in this meet.  We can come back and swim fast after conference."

Gillilan won the 50-yard butterfly last night and won the 100 fly tonight for his second title.  The sophomore set a new meet record in the prelims with a 47.19 and was the top qualifier heading into the finals.  In the final heat, he went even lower, swimming a 47.13 to take the top honor.  Justice Kramer also finished 18th (49.17) to contribute three points to CSUB's team total.

After just setting the 100 back school record at the WAC Championships, Rogic continued to lower his CSUB record.  The sophomore recorded a 47.73 to finish in fourth and best his previous mark of 47.84.

The `Runner 200-yard medley relay got the night off on the right foot with the third-fastest time in CSUB history (1:28.90).  Rogic completed the 50 backstroke in 22.69 to lead off, and Jake Chir had a 24.72 split in the 50 breaststroke.  Loren Gillilan swam an incredible 21.32 in the 50 fly and Noah Hickman cruised to the finish line in 20.17 in the 50 free.  CSUB finished in eighth place to earn 30 points in the team standings.

Seniors Jake Chir and Greg Lee scored a combined nine points for CSUB in the 100 breast.  Chir finished 16th in 55.61 and Lee finished just behind him in 56.11 to place 17th

"Greg Lee swimming his lifetime best in the prelims was amazing," said Hansen.  "This is guy has been one of the most loyal swimmers this program has had and makes me extremely happy to see him succeed. The same can be said about seniors Jake and Justice tonight.  All three are scoring us big points.  The men are still in the top 10.  We have had so many coaches talk to us about how well we are doing.  One more day tomorrow to see if we can sneak into the top five."

After two days at the NICs, the `Runners are in ninth place out of 25 teams with 246.50 points.  TCU sits in the coveted fifth position with 326.50 points.  Indiana leads the meet with 553.

The final day of the NIC will begin tomorrow morning at 6:30 a.m. PST.  The finals will start once again at 3:00 p.m. PST.
