Rogic, Gillilan Break School Records

HOUSTON, TexasKris Rogic and Loren Gillilan were behind three new school records for the CSU Bakersfield men's swimming and diving team on Friday at the Western Athletic Conference Championships.  Rogic set a new school mark in the 100-yard backstroke, while Gillilan broke the 100 butterfly record.  In the final event of the night, the duo paired with Jake Chir and Ryan Brimer to set a new record in the 400 medley relay.

"(Kris) Rogic and (Loren) Gillilan both score two school records today," said CSUB Director of Swimming Chris Hansen.  "Kris broke the 100 back record this morning and Loren in the 100 fly tonight.  These two where also part of the 400 medley relay along (Jake) Chir and (Ryan) Brimer.  Jake Chir, Ryan Brimer and Benji Duenas all had a big night as well."

Rogic and Gillilan set their school records during the morning session of today's competition.  Rogic qualified fourth in 47.84 to break his own best mark.  In the finals, he finished fifth in 48.19 to earn Second Team All-WAC honors.  Gillilan rebroke his own school record and shattered the previous school record by nearly a full second in the finals after touching the wall in 46.90 to earn a silver medal and First Team All-WAC honors.

Rogic, Gillilan, Chir and Brimer crushed the previous record set in 2011 of 3:16.44.  The foursome toured the course in 3:15.02 to finish fourth in the conference and set a new school standard.

Chir and Brimer added their names to the Second Team All-WAC squad earlier in the night.  Chir placed eighth in the 100 breaststroke in 55.06, while Brimer took fourth in the 200 free (1:37.52).  Brimer shaved nearly half of a second off his prelim time and just narrowly missed first team honors.

Sophomore Benji Duenas added five points to the team total with a 12th-place finish in the 400 individual medley (3:59.74).  Freshman James Skuse had a solid showing in his first conference championships appearance, finishing 14th in the 100 back (50.61).

With just one day of competition remaining for the Roadrunners, CSUB is in sixth out of seven teams in the team rankings with 226 points.  So far, the `Runners have won all-conference honors in six events and have broken four school records.

"The men are trying to close in on UNLV and hope to do so tomorrow," said Hansen.

Action for the final day of the WAC Championships begins at 10:30 a.m. CST.
