School Record Falls on Opening Day of WAC Championships

HOUSTON, Texas - The first day of the 2019 Western Athletic Conference Championships couldn't have gone much better for the CSU Bakersfield men's swimming and diving team. Seeded fifth, the foursome of Kris Rogic, Jake Chir, Justice Kramer and Loren Gillilan set a new school record in the 200 medley relay (1:28.15) to finish in fourth place. Those four men broke their own school record they set last season.

"All four splits were top of the line," said CSUB Head Coach Chris Hansen. "Jake's split in the 50 free was the fastest of the meet. Nate and Adam did a great job in the morning too."

In the morning session, Adam Estrella finished 11^th and Nate Cummins placed 12^th in the 1-meter diving competition. Estrella totaled 256.65 points, while Cummins was right behind him at 252.40.

The 800 free relay team of Rogic, Gillilan, Owen van Krimpen and Ryan Brimer placed sixth to earn 26 team points. The relay clocked a 6:32.59, which puts them at fifth on CSUB's all-time list. Rogic was a big part of the relay's success as he led off with the fourth-fastest 200 free time in CSUB history (1:37.34).

After the first day of competition, the Roadrunner men totaled 56 points, which is good for fifth out of seven teams.

CSUB will be back in action tomorrow beginning at 10:30 a.m. CST.
