Baseball Travels to Cal Poly Tomorrow

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield baseball team will take on Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo tomorrow night when they play the Mustangs for the second time in a week.

The Mustangs (1-6) claimed the first meeting between the future Big West opponents last Tuesday at Hardt Field by a 7-1 score.  Cal Poly took a 7-0 lead before the `Runners scored a solo tally in the ninth on a wild pitch.  The Mustangs outhit the Roadrunners just 7-3 in last week's game, but took advantage of 13 free passes by the CSUB pitching staff.

Both teams will look to get back in the win column as they were both swept over the weekend.  CSUB was defeated three times by San Francisco, while Cal Poly came up short against Cal on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The Mustangs will send freshman lefty Chase Watkins to the mound.  Watkins has made two appearances out of the bullpen this season and has allowed one run in 2.2 innings of work.  CSUB will likely send either veteran Isaiah Moten to the hill or freshman Roman Angelo.  Moten is one of the more experienced pitchers in the history of the CSU Bakersfield baseball program.  His 60 career appearances rank seventh all-time.  The senior has made two appearances in relief so far this year, tossing two full innings without allowing a base hit.

Angelo had the best outing of his young career against Cal Poly last week.  He tossed four scoreless innings in relief and allowed just two hits and two walks.  In his last appearance against San Francisco, he allowed a hit, a walk and a run without recording an out.  For the season, he has a 4.26 ERA.

The Roadrunners (2-6) are just 2-13 all-time in San Luis Obispo and seeking their first road win in the series since May 13, 2012.  Cal Poly has won the last seven meetings inside Baggett Stadium and the last seven games overall.

First pitch on Tuesday night is slated for 6:00 p.m.
