CSUB Falls to Ball State in Arizona

PHOENIX, Ariz. – The CSU Bakersfield baseball team couldn't overcome a big fourth inning by Ball State and fell to the Cardinals by a 10-6 margin.

The Cardinals got on the board early, scoring two runs in the first inning of CSUB starter Davonte Butler (0-1).  Jesse Rowley had the answer in the bottom half as he stroked a two-run home run to drive in Tyler Jorgensen

After two straight scoreless innings, the Cardinals scored five runs in the fourth inning to chase Butler.  The Roadrunners battled back and cut the lead to 7-5 by the end of the sixth inning.  Rowley hit a sacrifice fly to score Berkey in the fifth and in the sixth Nick Grossman scored on an error and Jassen Oliver had a pinch hit single to score Berkey for the second straight inning.

Ball State returned the favor by scoring two runs in the top of the seventh.  Noah Barba had another pinch hit RBI single for CSUB in the eighth, but that would be all the Roadrunner rally would muster.

Kyle King and Isaiah Moten had scoreless outings for the CSUB pitching staff.  King tossed 2.1 innings and struck out a pair, while Moten needed just two batters to get three outs in the ninth.

The `Runners (1-2) and the Cardinals (1-2) will meet again tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. MST.
