Roadrunners Drop Dual Meet at Fresno State

D’Arcy Leads Bakersfield Women with Three Individual Victories

Bakersfield, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield Women's Swimming and Diving team fell in dual meet action at Fresno State, Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs won the meet's opening event, the 200 Medley Relay, and never trailed en route to their 192-104 victory over the visiting Roadrunners. With the loss CSUB falls to 2-2 in dual meet action this season.

"Fresno State has a great team and they swam very well," said CSUB Director of Swimming Chris Hansen. "Still, I'm also very happy with the way our young team swam and competed in today's events."

Sophomore Autumn D'Arcy paced the `Runners, collecting three individual victories. Her first win came in the 50 Free when she blitzed the competition to win by more than half second, posting a time of 23.84.

D'Arcy followed up her win in the 50 Free with the only sub-52-second effort in the 100 Free, touching the wall in 51.78. The Redlands, Calif., native picked up her third victory in the 100 Fly, clocking a 55.50 and finishing the race nearly two seconds faster than her closest competitor.

"Autumn was excellent today. Mikayla Popham and Jaysiee Haynes were terrific as well," said Hansen. "Those three are tough as nails."

Popham's time of 1:52.20 gave Bakersfield its fourth win of the meet. She added second-place finishes in both the 500 Free (5:04.60) and the 200 IM (2:07.79).

Haynes grabbed a pair of podium finishes, placing second in the 1000 Free (10:27.84) and third in the 200 Breaststroke (2:23.89).

Tabea Mose placed second in the 100 Back with a time of 58.65. The sophomore also joined Popham, D'Arcy and freshman Lindsey Sohoel-Smith in finishing second in the 200 Medley Relay (1:47.63).

Ariane Skeggs and Maddie Cosgrove added strong swims for the `Runners. Skeggs was third in both the 1000 Free (10:35.80) and the 500 Free (5:11.93), while Cosgrove placed second in the 200 Fly (2:10.14) and fourth in the 100 Fly (1:00.05).

In the diving well, Lauren Carson (189.07) and Madison Gray (142.42) finished second and third, respectively, in the 1m discipline.

"Today is a great meet to build off of moving forward," Hansen added. "We put up a number of great swims, but we also learned some important lessons as we head into training camp and future meets."

The `Runner women are back in action on Dec. 31, when they host a New Year's Eve dual with San Jose State at the Hillman Aquatic Center at 10:30 a.m.
