CSUB Wins Five Titles at Menlo Open

ATHERTON, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield wrestling program put together a strong showing at the Menlo Open on Sunday. Five Roadrunners won titles at the daylong event while four others placed in the Top 3 of their respective weight classes.

Bakersfield claimed victories in half of the weight classes in Northern California as Noah Blakley-Beanes, Josh Brown, Kalani Tonge, Albert Urias, and Brayden Ray all earned first-place finishes in the Open. The quintet put together a combined record of 20-0 on the day as each tallied four wins on their way to their titles.

At 141, Blakley-Beanes finished the tournament with an 8-6 decision over Raul Ortiz of Sacramento City College. In the next weight class up, Brown earned a pair of pins on his way to a title.

Tonge, a redshirt junior, defeated fellow `Runner Joseph Valdez in the 157-pound title match. Urias used two pins and a tech fall to dominate the competition in the 174-pound weight class. Just a redshirt freshman, Ray defeated Stanford's Seamus O'Malley, 6-4, to win the heavyweight crown.

Eddie Flores placed second in the 125-pound weight class while Andrew Bloemhof came in third at 141. Brian Horn won the third-place match over teammate Noe Garcia in a thrilling, 1-0 decision, rounding out Bakersfield's impressive performance at the Menlo Open.
