Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

CSUB Goes Undefeated in Week 2 of WAC action

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield's men's soccer team extended its win streak to two matches after a thrilling win over Grand Canyon on Sunday night. For the second-straight contest it was Ryan Goldsmith who tallied the game-winner for the Roadrunners as they handed GCU a 2-1 loss at the Main Soccer Field.

Bakersfield improved to 3-6-0 overall and 2-1 in WAC while the Lops fell 4-3-2 on the year and 1-1-1 in conference.

Harry Downing opened scoring for CSUB with his first collegiate goal, unassisted, in the 16th minute of the contest. Redshirt junior goalkeeper Detre Bell then followed with one save and multiple blocks to keep GCU off the scoreboard.

The second half left fans on the edge of their seats. Tom Shepherd played a ball to Ryan Goldsmith in the 62nd minute that gave the Roadrunners a 2-0 lead with under 30 minutes on the game clock. But what looked like a 2-0 shutout turned into a dog fight until the end of regulation.

Grand Canyon broke through in the 74th minute when Will Clark played a cross to Calvin Kissi who sent his strike past Bell and cut the deficit to one goal with 16 minutes left in regulation. Fortunately, GCU was unable to equalize against an aggressive and swarming CSUB defense and Goldsmith was credited his second consecutive game-winner as Bakersfield held on to a 2-1.
