Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Mistakes Cost Bakersfield Road Shutout

USAF ACADEMY, Colorado – Mistakes or lack of mistakes seemed to be the difference in who controlled the pace of the match as CSU Bakersfield's men's soccer team tallied its third WAC and eighth overall loss on Saturday afternoon in a 6-0 shut out with the Air Force Falcons.

When asked to breakdown what he saw on the pitch in the lopsided loss, Head coach Richie Grant replied, "The man who never made a mistake, never made anything. Unfortunately, we made a few too many today. We will make sure out response is positive."

The first half was relatively quiet despite two early goals from the home team. Tristan Trager flicked the ball on to James D'Emidio who slid past two CSUB defenders to help the Falcons gets off to an early 1-0 lead in the 20th minute. Then, in the 27th minute, Trager drew a CSUB foul inside the box, paused on his penalty kick stride to open up the right-side barrier and knock in the Falcons' second goal of the afternoon and his sixth on the year.

Ryan Goldsmith found space at the top of the box in the 53rd minute and sent a rocket over Air Force's goalie but fortunately for the Falcons it hit the top of the cross bar and bounced to an AF defender. Goldsmith's look would be Bakersfield best attempt in the match.

A point blank shot from inside the left box by the Falcons was saved by Detre Bell, his second, in the 57th minute; but three minutes later Bell misplayed a ball after coming off the line and Trager was there to flick a pass to wide open D'Emidio to lift Air Force 3-0 in the 60th minute of the contest and it would be all AF from there.

Rodrigo Sarmiento substituted in for Bell with just under twenty-three minutes left in the match.

D'Emidio recorded a hat trick in the 70th minute when he pushed a right-footed shot towards Sarmieinto three minutes into his appearance that he blocked, but the ball found E'Emidio again who struck again, his time passed Sarmiento, for his third goal of the contest.

What looked like what was going to be a CSUB goal kick was kept in play by Elijah Bussey. He fed a cross to Garrett Miyoka who headed a goal to lift the Falcons 5-0. Michael Neacsu played a cross to Quinn Matulis who found a scoring angle and hammered home a shot with 25 seconds left in the game for the final 6-0 score.

Bakersfield returns home next week for a three-game homestand with Seattle U (Oct. 19), Incarnate Word (Oct. 25) and UTRGV (Oct. 27) before closing the 2019 regular season at Kansas City (Nov. 1), Houston Baptist (Nov. 3) and California Baptist (Nov. 9).
