Roadrunners Fall to Cal Poly to Close Non-League Action

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield men's soccer team fell to Cal Poly 2-0 on Saturday night at the Main Soccer Field.

The Roadrunners (2-5-0) couldn't find their rhythm offensively against a tough Mustang (2-3-1) defense in the squad's non-conference finale.  CSUB fired seven shots on the night, but couldn't place one of them on the net.  Simon Boehme earned his first win of the season for Cal Poly in goal, but did not have to make a save.  Sam Gomez led the `Runners with two shots.

The Mustangs' Sam Goode scored both of the visitors' goals on the evening.  He opened the scoring in the 27th minute as he beat Rodrigo Sarmiento one-on-one from the right side after Andrew Forth scooted the ball in front of the CSUB defense.  In the 77th minute, Goode blasted a cross from Jacob Lindberg right in front of the net to give Cal Poly the 2-0 advantage.  Jose Rivera also assisted on the play.

Detre Bell made two saves for CSUB before exiting, while Sarmiento took the loss after allowing both goals and making one save.

CSUB opens the Western Athletic Conference schedule next Saturday when they host San Jose State at 7:00 p.m.
