Baseball Can’t Complete Comeback at Seattle U

BELLEVUE, Wash.  – The CSU Bakersfield baseball team spotted Seattle U seven runs in the first inning, but battled all the way to the end on Saturday evening.  The Roadrunners cut the advantage to two runs twice, but ran out of outs at Bannerwood Park and lost 8-6 to the Redhawks.

The Redhawks sent 13 men to the plate in the first inning as they scored seven times on four hits, four walks and a pair of `Runner miscues.  Senior starter Naithen Dewsnap (2-5) settled in after the tough first frame and tossed four straight scoreless innings.  He walked five and struck out four, while allowing seven runs.  Only four of those runs were earned.

Andrew Penner led the `Runner attack with three hits, three RBI and blasted a home run in the fourth inning to get CSUB on the scoreboard.  With the bases loaded in the fifth, Penner singled down the right field line to score Buck Anderson and Daniel CarrizosaRyan Koch followed a deep sacrifice fly to center field that scored Sergio Robles

The CSUB offense continued to put pressure on the Redhawks as they added solo tallies in the sixth and seventh innings.  Carrizosa singled home Jassen Oliver in the sixth and Koch picked up his second RBI of the game as he singled home Noah Barba in the seventh.

Koch, Oliver and Carrizosa all had two hits to aid Penner in the lineup.  CSUB outhit Seattle U 12-9.  Kevin Altamirano relieved Dewsnap in the sixth and tossed two innings, while allowing an earned run.  Aaron Charles tossed a scoreless eighth.

CSUB (16-25, 6-8 WAC) will look to take the series in the rubber game tomorrow.  Elijah Parks (3-1) will get the ball for the `Runners and will face Nick Meservey (0-0).
