`Runners Fall in Series Finale at Seattle U

BELLEVUE, Wash.  – For the second straight day the CSU Bakersfield baseball team spotted Seattle U with a big early lead and the Roadrunner offense was unable to keep pace as they fell 10-4 at Bannerwood Park.

The Redhawks scored two runs in the first inning off of starter Elijah Parks (3-2) as the freshman allowed four straight batters to reach safely. Seattle U's Jake Cosgrove accounted for the first five runs of the game as he had a two-run single in the first and hit a three-run homer in the third to put Seattle U up 5-0.  Seattle U tacked on another run in the fourth off of Davonte Butler to build a six-run advantage.

The Roadrunners seemed to creep back into the game as they plated three runs in the fifth, but the Redhawks answered with three of their own in the bottom half to keep CSUB at bay.

Noah Barba and Daniel Carrizosa continued to swing it well for the `Runner offense.  Barba recorded his second three-hit game of the series and added a RBI.  Carrizosa had two hits, a RBI and scored a run.  Evan Berkey recorded his first multi-hit game in two weeks, Jassen Oliver doubled and Sergio Robles hit a RBI triple in the sixth.

Ben Cutting had an effective appearance out of the bullpen.  He allowed just one run in 3.2 innings pitched and struck out a career-high six batters.  Nathan Bonck (3-1) got the win for Seattle U as he tossed 2.1 innings and allowed one earned run.  The Redhawks recorded 14 hits in the series finale.

CSUB (16-26, 6-9 WAC) hosts UC Santa Barbara on Tuesday at Hardt Field.  First pitch is at 6:00 p.m.
