CSUB Falls in Game Two to Sacramento State

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – For the first time in nearly two weeks, the CSU Bakersfield baseball team came up short.  The Roadrunners were defeated by Sacramento State 3-1 on Saturday night at Hardt Field to snap a five-game winning streak.

The Hornets scored all of their runs via the long ball in the second game of a three-game series.  Second baseman PJ Floyd victimized senior starter Naithen Dewsnap (2-4) in the fourth inning with a solo shot to right center field and James Outman made it 3-0 with a two-run homer in the fifth. That was it for the Hornet offense.  Dewsnap threw 104 pitches on the evening and gave up just three earned runs in 6.2 innings.  He allowed just five hits and also struck out five.  Aaron Charles had a solid outing in relief.  The sophomore stranded a pair of inherited baserunners in the seventh and tossed scoreless eighth and ninth innings.

The `Runner offense outhit the Hornets 8-6, but couldn't get the clutch hits they needed and left eight runners on base, including four in scoring position.  CSUB finally broke through against Sacramento State starter Austin Root (6-3) in the sixth inning.  Evan Berkey was hit by a pitch to start the inning and Christian Deaton followed with a single to center.  After Andrew Penner popped up to second, Ryan Koch had an infield single to third base to score Berkey.

CSUB could've jumped out to an early lead in the third as Sergio Robles and Daniel Nist led off the inning with a pair of singles, but Root retired three straight `Runners to get out of the jam.

Koch led the attack with two singles.

The series finale will be tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. Elijah Parks (3-1) will get the ball for CSUB and will face Scott Randall (3-3).
