Women’s Soccer Inks Four NLIs For 2018 Class

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Sebastian Vecchio announced the signing of Lucy Gomez, Chaylyn Navares, Cassandra Tymchen and Ashley Waymireto to National Letters of Intent. The four incoming athletes will be eligible to compete for CSU Bakersfield's women's soccer team this fall.

"I am extremely pleased to announce the first part of our 2018 class," said Vecchio. "joining the program after signing day and still being able to add these quality student athletes will make our program much stronger in 2018."

Gomez, a native of Southlake, Texas, will head west and join the `Runners fall of 2018 after graduating from Southlake Carroll High School this spring. The 5-foot-10 goal keeper and her team ranked 1st in the state of Texas, 13th in the nation and finished with a 19-1-2 overall record.

"Adding Lucy to our goalkeeper squad will elevate the competition in that position." Vecchio added, "She possesses all the qualities necessary to be a great Division I goalkeeper and the sky is the limit for her."

A 5-foot-2 outside back and midfielder, Navares will travel from Mililani, Hawaii to compete for Bakersfield this fall. The incoming freshman earned several accolades while at Mililani High School. She tabbed an Oahu Interscholastic Association Honorable Mention nod, two league championships (2015-16, 2016-17) and was second-best in scoring for the Trojans during her 2016-17 campaign.

"Chay is an outstanding and versatile player that brings a lot of pace to our backline," said Vecchio. "Her passion for the game and commitment to CSUB will take this program to a new level."

Tymchen, a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada is a transfer student-athlete from Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tenn. She prepped at Transcona Collegiate Institute, trained with Soccers Best Academy and played for the FC Northwest Club team. An experienced player at the keeper position, Tymchen will compete for time right away in goal.

"Cassandra is a proven goalkeeper and her shot-stop ability is second to none," said Vecchio. "She brings some international experience to our roster and will make the competition in goal extremely tough."

Waymire, a 5-foot-3 outside back and midfielder, will graduate from Valhalla High School in El Cajon, Calif. this spring. She helped earn a 2016 California Interscholastic Federation Division II Championship for the Norsemen and boasts multiple academic and athletic honors.

"Ashley is extremely smart on and off the field," said Vecchio. "She will compete for playing time out wide in the back line or in the midfield position, adding speed and grit to out team."

Two months into his stint at CSUB, head coach Vecchio and his team have seen a lot of success this spring season and continue to work towards a program-first Western Athletic Conference championship. The squad will be back on the field this summer with all four of their newest additions.
