Swimming Teams Finish Seventh at UNLV

LAS VEGAS – The CSU Bakersfield men's and women's swimming teams competed in the third and final day of the 2018 UNLV Invite on Saturday. 

Results

Sabrina Zavala and Lucy Peltz got CSUB off to a great start during this evening's finals.  In the 1,650-yard freestyle, Zavala placed fifth (17:20.42) and Peltz touched the wall in 10th (17:33.65). 

Freshman Autumn D'Arcy continued a tremendous weekend, placing eighth in the 100 free (51.26).  Jayssie Haynes followed with a fifth-place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:16.49) and Maddie Cosgrove also came through with a fifth-place showing in the 200 butterfly (2:03.74). 

Cosgrove, D'Arcy, Alisa Cooke and Abigail Abshire teamed up to finish fifth in the 400 free relay (3:26.35). 

"Autumn, Jaysiee and Maddie had another big night for ladies," said CSUB Director of Swimming Chris Hansen.  "All three of them set themselves up nice in the WAC rankings.  Maddie, Autumn, Alisa and Abbie (400 Free Relay) again was one of the best mid season times we have had ever."

The women finished seventh out of nine teams 301 points.  UC Santa Barbara won the meet with 791.50, with UNLV and Fresno State tying for second with 616.50 each. 

Kris Rogic got things going for the men, swimming the 200 backstroke in 1:53.11 to place eighth.  Freshman James Skuse also placed 12th in the event (1:52.95).  Justice Kramer snagged 14th in the 200 fly (1:53.19). 

Junior Noah Hultner swam a 16:42.53 to place 15th in the 1,650 free. 

Rogic, Ryan Brimer, Richie Campbell and Noah Hickman combined to finish ninth in the 400 free relay, touching the wall in 3:02.78. 

"Like the women the 400 Free Relay was one of fastest mid season times to date," said Hansen.  "Kris,Rogic, Justice Kramer, Benji Duenas, Richie Campbell, Noah Hickman, Ryan Brimer all had not only a great night but a great meet.  Both the men and women had a successful weekend.  We have set ourselves up for a great WAC Championship.  I'm proud of the team."

The men's team finished seventh out of seven teams with 261 points.  The Gauchos also were victorious on the men's side with 1,020 points and Cal Poly claimed second with 675. 

The women's team will host Fresno State on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. for a dual, while the men will be off until both the men and women dual with UNLV on December 19 at the John S. Hillman Memorial Aquatic Center.
