Blue Beats Gold in Annual Dual

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield wrestling team held their annual Blue-Gold Dual on Friday night in the Icardo Center with the Blue Team claiming a 24-9 victory over the Gold Team.

Freshman Chance Rich gave nationally-ranked redshirt senior Sean Nickell all he could handle in the 133-pound match as Nickell scored a third period escape for the only point of the match. CSUB's other nationally-ranked wrestler Russell Rohlfing had no issues in the 149-pound bout, earning a 16-4 major decision over Kalani Tonge.

Jacob Thalin and Dominic Ducharme also scored victories by major decision on Friday night. Thalin knocked off Albert Urias 14-4 at 165, while Ducharme defeated Matt Penyacsek 15-7.

In the night's second match, Mark Penyacsek didn't relinquish a point to Josh Loomer in a 2-0, shutout victory.
