Redhawks Defeat `Runners in Seattle

SEATTLE, Wash. – Preseason Western Athletic Conference favorite Seattle U jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead and never looked back in a victory over the Roadrunners on Saturday night.
 
CSUB (4-8-1, 2-3-1) struggled in the first half with just one shot by Niklas Koerber and no shots on goal.  The Redhawks meanwhile scored in the sixth minute and again in the 39th minute to claim a 2-0 advantage.  Seattle U (10-4-0, 4-2-0) had 11 shots in the first 45 minutes and forced `Runner keeper Rodrigo Sarmiento to make five saves. 
 
In the second half, the match was fairly even as the Redhawks added seven shots to CSUB's five.  For the evening, Seattle U held an 18-6 advantage in shots.  Ryan Goldsmith had the only shot on goal on the night for the `Runner attack, while Tom Shepherd led the team with two shots.    
 
Sarmiento set a new career-high with eight saves in the defeat, while the `Runners made Josh Adachi make just one save. 
 
CSUB will remain on the road next weekend when they take on UTRGV on Friday at 7:00 p.m. CT and Incarnate Word on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. CT.
