CSUB Wraps Up U.S. Nationals

COLUMBUS, Ohio – CSU Bakersfield's men and women's swim team wrapped up their final day at U.S. Nationals in several events this morning, the 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly and the 400 Freestyle relay. The Roadrunners had strong finishes, including the men's 400 freestyle relay.

"All in all, we had a successful weekend," said Chris Hansen, CSUB's director of swim and dive. Mentally we are all tired from two big meets and traveling. However, it's that time of year to train hard and start thinking WAC!"

The `Runners swam a 3:02.42 in the men 400 Freestyle relay this evening which included two seniors and two freshmen. Lovre  Soric, Kris Rogic, Joe Cobarrubias and Ryan Brimer had a season best and missed the fifth fastest time by two seconds. "We finished U.S Nationals with what could be our best relay, the 400 Free relays. We are still unsure who will swim this relay in February, however these four did great tonight," said Hansen.

The lone women swimmer at U.S Nationals, Jayssie Hayes, competed in the 200 Breaststroke today with a time of 2:18.48. Coach Hansen went on to comment of how satisfied he was of the sophomore, "She was off her best time, but I can't say enough of how proud I am of this young lady. I am excited to get home and work hard in training camp. You will hear her name a lot come WAC, promise!"

Kris Rogic, a native from Zagreb, Croatia competed in his first ever U.S. Nationals and proved this weekend that he can swim right next to the big boys. Today, the freshman had a personal best in the 100 freestyle with a time of 46.10.

Coach Hansen noted the other swimmers who competed today, "Kris, Justice and Lovre closed up their meets with individual events today. Justice has really stepped up his game this last month and it has shown in his swims and leadership. Lovre needs to get ready for some tough training ahead so we can finish off his career with best times. During the time Trails today, Joe swam his fastest mid-season, I'm pumped Joe got to experience such a big meet his senior year. He deserved to be here."

Justice Kramer finished the day in the 200 Butterfly with a time of 1:52.19 while Soric competed in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 1:51.27.      Cobarrubias swam a personal best in the 100 freestyle.

CSUB swim and dive team will take the winter off and kick up their second part of their season on Jan. 6, 2017 in Los Angeles going head on with UC San Diego.
