Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

`Runners Drop A Tough One In Houston

Houston, Texas – The CSU Bakersfield men's soccer team went to Houston to play Houston Baptist, looking to stay hot within the Western Athletic Conference.  The `Runners had won three WAC games in nine days to improve to 5-6 on the season and 3-1 in the conference.

The Huskies took a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 14th minute from freshman Abdullah Mirza, his second of the year, assisted by sophomore Dominick Faletto.

The half would end with HBU having that 1-0 lead, but the `Runners really started to get some rhythm in the last 15-20 minutes of the first half.  HBU outshot CSUB 10-4 for the half and each team had seven fouls.

In the second half, the `Runners really made a push to tie it at one, but in the 80th minute, Faletto got his second assist of the night.  Senior Marc Anthone would score his first of the campaign to make it 2-0 HBU.  But the `Runners did not quit.

Jamie Carey-Morrell would get one back just two minutes later to make it 2-1 on an assist from Niklas Korber.  Carey-Morrell now has a team leading five goals for CSUB and Korber is now tied for the team lead in assists with three. And that would be how the game would end, a 2-1 HBU victory.

CSUB would finish the game with 16 shots, 12 of them in the second half, but they just could not get that tying goal in the end.  The `Runners fall to 5-7 and 3-2 in WAC play, while the Huskies improve to 5-5 and 2-3 in the WAC.

The `Runners now get an eight day break before heading back to Texas to play UTRGV on Friday, Oct. 20 and Incarnate Word on Sunday, Oct. 22.
