Box Score ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—An own goal by CSU Bakersfield 1:21 into overtime allowed Missouri State to defeat the Roadrunners 1-0 Sunday afternoon in the final match of The Grange & Ashwill Memorial Invitational.
For the second consecutive match, CSUB played their opponent to a 0-0 tie after regulation. As overtime got underway, Missouri State's Jake Buckle crossed the ball from the left post to the right. The ball looked like it might make it just across the goal line on the attempt. CSUB's Jamie Jamie Velazquez.Velazquez slid in to kick the ball out, but his effort pushed the ball into the top of the Roadrunner net for the own goal.
The Roadrunners (1-4) outshot the Bears 10-9. Julian Zamora posted a match high four shots for the 'Runners. CSUB goalie Nicolas Clever made four saves on all four shots on goal that were attempted by Missouri State.
“We had a great spell in the second half where we created a couple of big opportunities,” said CSUB head coach Richie Grant. “We were confident going into extra time and it was unfortunate to lose the way it the way it happened. This is a great test for our program and we will respond on Thursday.”
CSUB hosts UC Davis (1-1-2) Thursday night on the Main Soccer Field.
