Box Score WEST POINT, N.Y.—Hofstra defeated CSU Bakersfield 3-1 in the final match for the Roadrunners Saturday at the Black Knights Invitational.
CSUB defeated the Pride 25-21 in the first set before Hofstra took set two 25-12. The Pride jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the third set before taking the victory 25-15. With CSUB leading Hofstra 10-6 in the fourth set, the Pride mounted a 13-2 run that would give Hofstra the lead for good. The Pride took set four by a 25-17 count.
Sydney Haynes had the most kills for CSUB with eight. Katie Dunbar-Lowe had seven kills while Marina Sanches and Sophie Flemion each charted six kills. Flemion also added a team high eight digs and a block. Sidney Wicks dished out 17 assists.
Hofstra, which hit .440 (62-11-116) compared to .092 for CSUB (35-24-119), had four players with double-digit kills. Leticia Valente paced all players with 17 kills.
“We passed and served very well in the first set,” said CSUB directory of volleyball Giovanna Melo. “We couldn't maintain that level of play. We can't be that inconsistent if we want to win.”
An All-Tournament team will be announced upon the conclusion of the tournament on Saturday.
The Roadrunners travel to the UC Santa Barbara Tournament next weekend for three matches. The meet begins Friday with a 12:30 p.m. matchup against the host Gauchos.
