BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield's Director of Swimming, Chris Hansen, has announced the promotion of Gray Tedder to Head Assistant Coach for the Roadrunner swimming and diving teams.
“I'm excited to promote Gray to our Head Assistant position,” said Hansen. “He has been extremely dedicated and loyal to our program for the past two years. He has been a huge success in coaching in Bakersfield, both as the Director of Roadrunner Aquatics as well as coaching WAC Champions Kelsey Lange and Chrisy Vo for the 'Runners.”
Before taking over Roadrunner Aquatics and the CSUB female sprinters, Tedder was a successful club coach in North Carolina and South Carolina. A native of Shelby N.C., Tedder competed in sprint freestyle for the University of South Carolina from 2007-2011 and was an economics major.
Hansen went on to say he has handed the reins of the program's recruiting process over to Tedder with full confidence: “Trust is huge in an assistant and I trust him a ton. Gray will oversee recruiting as well run our sprint program. Michelle Garner will move up to take Gray's former position. We are excited to have Michelle take over the distance group. She is one of the best sport technicians that I have been associated with.”
Tedder's appointment comes on the heels of the announcement that former Head Assistant Coach Shane Pelton accepted a head coaching position at Cal State East Bay. Former 'Runner swimmer and Assistant Coach Fran Cverle also left the program to pursue a career outside of swimming.
“Both Shane and Fran are moving on,” said Hansen. “We wish both the best. Fran has been part of the family for five years and has been a huge asset. Shane is so ready to be a head coach and run his own program. They both will be very successful.”
