Box Score BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—CSU Bakersfield and Sacramento State managed to get game one completed before rain once again halted the Western Athletic Conference baseball series Saturday afternoon at Hardt Field.
The Roadrunners came from behind to defeat Sacramento State 4-3 in the opener. The Hornets took a 3-1 lead into the seventh as starter Sam Long was in control, allowing only four CSUB hits. Beardsley's first batter, Dustin Frailey, tied the game with a single to right that scored a pair of runs. Mahlik Jones gave the 'Runners the lead with his single that plated Jake Ortega. Isaiah Moten relieved Roadrunner starter Andrew Hansen to start the eighth and retired Sacramento State in order.
Moten got the first out of the ninth before issuing a Gunner Pollman walk. Pinch-hitter James Outman grounded into a 3-6 fielder's choice for the second out. A second pinch-hitter, PJ Floyd lined out to second to end the 'Runners 12-game losing streak.
Frailey and Jones combined for four of the six CSUB (6-22, 1-6 WAC) hits (two each) and each drove in two runs. Chris Lewis went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a RBI to pace the Hornets. Andrew McWilliam drove in two of the three Sacramento State runs.
Game two was suspended upon the conclusion of the eighth inning due to rain in the nightcap with Sacramento State leading 6-3. Play will resume at 11 a.m. on Sunday with game three of the series to follow approximately 35-40 minutes upon the finish of game two.
The Hornets (17-12, 6-1 WAC) scored once in the second, once in the fourth, once in the fifth, and three in the sixth to take a 6-0 lead. David Metzgar drove in a pair of the CSUB runs with a double in the bottom of the eighth. He scored later in the inning on a Max Carter single.
