BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – For the second straight season, the CSU Bakersfield women's golf team hosted CSUN in a dual. The Roadrunners struggled to keep pace with the Matadors, who had three scoring student-athletes card sub-80 rounds. CSUN took the dual at Bakersfield Country Club by a score of 305-334.
“CSUN played really well today,” said Meghan Thomason, Director of Golf at CSUB and the women's team's Head Coach. “We really need to straighten things out with the short game. We are looking forward to our final tournament before Conference.”
On the par 73 course in Bakersfield, junior Chandler Bullman paced the Roadrunners with a low round of 81 (+8). Sophomore Tori Peers posted an 82 to finish second for CSUB on Friday. Fellow sophomore Ariel Lee shot an 84 while senior Shannon Wong and sophomore Julia Stewart both carded 87s to round out the 'Runner scoring four.
Playing as an individual, sophomore Jenni Chun posted the third-best 'Runner score of the day, using just 83 strokes to complete the 6,090-yard course. Chun's ten-over-par score was just three strokes off of her career-low round. Fellow sophomore Amy Cooper lso competed as an individual for the 'Runners and came into the clubhouse with a score of 91.
CSUB posted a team round of 334 (+42), falling to CSUN, which used 305 (+13) strokes in the single round on Friday afternoon. The Matadors were led by Arinda Bhanaraksa, who posted an impressive score of 71 (-2).
“We have to thank Arno and his staff at Bakersfield Country Club,” said Thomason. “They do so much for our program and we are so grateful for their support.”
The Roadrunners have one final tune up before heading to Blaine, Wash. for the Western Athletic Conference Tournament, Apr. 22-24. Before CSUB can battle the rest of the WAC, the 'Runners will travel to Goodyear, Ariz., Apr. 11-12, at the Montana State Bobcat Spring Invitational. The two-day tournament will feature 54-holes of golf at the Golf Club of Estrella.
