`Runners Wrap Historic Season at Big West Championship

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Roadrunner women's golf team concluded the 2026 Big West Championship and another record-setting season with one last round on Tuesday, April 22. Senior Sarah Mutai and sophomore Anna Kehrer led Cal State Bakersfield in the final tournament, representing a strong mix of current and future leadership.

Following an outstanding Fall season, Third-year Head Coach Katy Barrett Baxter guided the `Runners through a difficult Spring schedule on the way to a historic season.

A Record-Breaking Season
  • CSUB wrapped up the year with a national ranking of 177, over 100 spots higher than when Barrett Baxter took over the helm of the program.
  • For the second-straight season, the `Runners reset the program record with a team scoring average of 302.60, a 3.4-stroke improvement on last year's record performance.
    • Coach Barrett Baxter's squads own three of the top four single-season scoring averages in program history.
  • Six different `Runners averaged in the 70s on the year (Mutai, Han, Kehrer, Kaneko, Montemayor, and Clancy).
    • Mutai's team-leading average of 73.93 is a new program record while Han's 75.36 ranks third all-time.
  • The Roadrunners tallied 13 different performances on the program's Top 10 lists for team and individual scores for either 18, 36, or 54 holes, including two team records.
    • CSUB's trip to the Clash at Boulder Creek saw the `Runners shooting program low 18-hole (285, -3) and 54-hole (878, +14) team scores.
  • Mutai (1st, 75.33), Han (2nd, 76.54), and Kehrer (3rd, 77.37) all sit in the top three for career scoring averages in Roadrunner program history.
  • Mutai and Han both wrapped up their collegiate careers with multiple Top 5 standings in the CSUB record books:
    • Career Rounds in the 70s: Mutai (1st, 90), Han (2nd, 82)
    • Career Rounds in the 60s: Mutai (1st, 5), Han (2nd, 3)
    • Career Rounds Played: Han (3rd, 97), Mutai (4th, 96)
  • After a busy and successful year, Barrett Baxter and the `Runners will enjoy some deserved time off before hitting the grind again to continue progressing the CSUB Golf program.
