Box Score BELLEVUE, Wash.—Seattle University defeated CSU Bakersfield 7-3 in game two of the Western Athletic Conference baseball series between the two clubs Friday at Bannerwood Park.
The Roadrunners scored first when David Metzgar drove in Dustin Frailey with a single in the top of the first. The Redhawks took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the second. CSUB got one back in the top of the third when Nick Vehlewald singled in Christian Deaton. Jeffery Morgan and Max Modeste posted RBI's in the bottom of the third for a 5-2 Seattle U lead.
The Redhawks added a run in the bottom of the fifth and a run in the bottom of the sixth. A second Metzagar RBI in the seventh cut the SU lead to four. The 'Runners threatened in the top of the ninth. Pinch hitter Joey Sanchez was hit by a pitch to begin the frame. Jake Ortega walked before Deaton struck out against SU closer Jake Junk. Frailey flew out to left before Metzgar reached on an error to load the bases. Max Carter grounded into a fielder's choice (6-4) to end the game.
"We couldn't really get anything going offensively today," said CSUB head coach Bob Macaluso.
Michael McCann tallied a game high three hits (3-for-4) for Seattle U. Sean Sutton, Morgan, and Modeste both charted two hits. Metzgar and Vehlewald both recorded two hits for the Roadrunners.
The Roadrunners (5-17, 0-2 WAC) conclude the series against Seattle University (13-9, 2-0 WAC) Friday. First pitch has been moved up two hours to 3 p.m. to avoid forecasted weather in the area.
