NEW YORK—All three of the remaining CSU Bakersfield wrestlers were eliminated on day two of the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships at Madison Square Garden Friday.
Bryce Hammond need only 2:23 to record a technical fall over Michael Pavasko of Clarion in his first wrestle back Friday. He took on Alex Meyer of Iowa in round three of the consolation bracket. Hammond built a four-point lead before a Meyer reversal led to a four-point near fall for the Hawkeye grappler at the end of the opening period.
A second two-point Meyer reversal pushed the lead to 8-4 early in the second period. Meyer took down Hammond from the neutral position to begin the third period. Meyer again recorded a four-point near fall and with riding time, Meyer eliminated Hammond from the tournament 15-4. Hammond finished his season with 21-5 record.
Ian Nickell eliminated from the 141-pound bracket when Penn State's Jimmy Gulibon defeated Nickell 4-3 in the second round of wrestlebacks. Nickell concluded his season with a 27-11 record.
Coleman Hammond was eliminated at 149 pounds by Victor Lopez of Bucknell. Lopez defeated Hammond 8-5. Hammond ends his season with a 23-15 record.
CSUB ended session III in 27th place with 9.5 points. Penn State leads the team race with 68.5 points. The tournament concludes on Saturday. All matches can be seen on ESPN3.com or ESPN.
