NAMPA, Idaho – The CSU Bakersfield women's indoor track and field team closed out the final day of the Western Athletic Conference Indoor Championships with a pair of solid performances.
Senior Alicia Torres represented the 'Runners well in the shot put, posting an indoor personal-best on Saturday. Torres' mark of 41-03.25 came on her very first throw and helped the native of Bakersfield qualify for the finals. The Bakersfield College transfer went on to finish ninth overall in the finals for CSUB.
Susannah Vera, a sophomore, took on her second event of the WAC Championships after running in the 60-meter hurdles on Friday. Saturday featured Vera's best event, the high jump, where the native of Indio, Calif. finished tied for 10th. Vera jumped each of her first two heights easily, clearing on the first leap both times. She failed to clear 5-03.00, but Vera posted a strong mark of 5-01.00.
“I thought Alicia had a great throw in the shot put today,” said Marcia Mansur-Wentworth. “Susannah had a decent high jump. Now we are ready to roll into outdoor season.”
CSU Bakersfield has now concluded the 2016 indoor season. The women's squad will be joined by the men's team next weekend as the Roadrunners will travel to Los Angeles for the Cal State LA Invitational, Mar. 4-5.
