BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—For the second consecutive season, CSU Bakersfield welcomes the defending Big East Champion to Hardt Field as the Roadrunners host St. John's. CSUB opened the 2015 season against Creighton.
The series begins Friday night at 6 p.m. Saturday's game will kick off homecoming festivities at 12 p.m. before the weekend concludes Sunday at 12 p.m. This is the first meetings between CSUB and the Red Storm in baseball.
St. John's is 1-2 after a weekend trip to North Carolina. The Red Storm were scheduled to play at No. 8 North Carolina State on Wednesday, but the game was cancelled due to weather.
After totaling a team-high six RBI in three games on Opening Weekend, redshirt freshman Aidan McDermott was named to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll. McDermott batted .455 (5-for-11) with one double, one home run, six RBI and four runs scored. He hit safely in all three games, registered two multi-hit efforts and added a team-high .818 slugging percentage during the three games at UNC Wilmington.
CSU Bakersfield went 2-1 last weekend, defeating CSUN on opening day 8-5. The Matadors defeated the 'Runners 7-5 in the home opener on Saturday before CSUB defeated the 'Dors 5-3 on Sunday.
The Roadrunners started three players that will saw action both in the field and on the mound last week at CSUN. Max Carter hit .500 (5-of-10) during the CSUN series at first base. He pitched two innings against the Matadors on Feb. 20, striking out four along the way.
Chance Gusbeth hit a pair of home runs and did not commit an error in seven chance right field before coming and getting the save against the Matadors on Feb. 19. Cody White hit .455 during the CSUN series. He tied the school record for most doubles in a game with two against the Matadors on Feb. 20. After starting games one and two at catcher, White began game three against CSUN as the DH and pitched the final three innings to earn the save. He struck out three.
Junior transfer Dustin Frailey tied the school record for most stolen bases in a game with two against CSUN Feb. 21. He is the eighth CSUB player to steal two bases in a game and it is the 15th time that the accomplishment has been recorded.
