Box Score KANSAS CITY, Mo.—Niklas Korber scored a pair of goals as CSU Bakersfield defeated UMKC 2-0 in Western Athletic Conference men's soccer action Thursday night.
After a scoreless first half, Korber broke the seal with his second goal of the season in the 58th minute. Hugo Vinales was credited with the assist on the play. Korber scored an insurance goal in the 84th minute when he found the back of the net off a Louis Lapouge pass.
Roadrunner goalie Nicolas Clever charted his 13th career shutout as he made two saves. CSUB outshot the 'Roos 7-5, 3-2 on goal. UMKC had nine corner kicks, compared to seven for the 'Runners.
“I am really pleased for our team,” said CSUB head coach Richie Grant. “We played with impressive confidence tonight, and took our chances very well. Nick made an important save in the first half and helped us earn the shutout.”
By defeating the Kangaroos, CSUB has recorded nine points in league play. CSU Bakersfield (5-11, 3-5 WAC) moves into sole possession of the sixth final WAC Tournament slot. UTRGV, a 2-0 winner over UIW tonight has the fifth spot while San Jose State (7 points) has moved to seventh with a 1-0 victory over third place Air Force Thursday night.
UMKC falls to 2-10-2, 1-5-2 in league play. The 'Runners travel to Grand Canyon (6-7-3, 3-2-3 WAC) for a Sunday match that begins at 2 p.m.
