NORFOLK, Va. – The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced its list of the Scholar All-America Teams on Wednesday and CSU Bakersfield's men's and women's swimming and diving teams made the cut. The academic honor is awarded to collegiate swimming and diving teams that achieved a collective GPA of 3.0 or higher during the 2015 fall term.
The Roadrunner men's squad qualified for the Scholar All-America Team by posting a team GPA of 3.08 during the fall quarter. CSUB's women's team, which has had at least five student-athletes named Academic All-WAC all three seasons the team has been in the conference, had a collective GPA of 3.21.
Among all three divisions of the NCAA, the NJCAA, and the NAIA, a total of 547 men's and women's teams earned Scholar All-America honors on Wednesday. The CSCAA credits the rigorous training and competition schedules of swimmers and divers for their academic success. While that may seem contradictory, CSCAA Executive Director Joel Shinofield stated in the release, "...we find that in most cases their athletic drive and academic goals simply reinforce one another."
Founded in 1922, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America - the oldest organization of college coaches in America - is a professional organization of college swimming and diving coaches dedicated to serving and providing leadership for the advancement of the sport of swimming & diving at the collegiate level.
