BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—The CSU Bakersfield men's soccer team returns to the pitch this weekend with a pair of road matches.
The trip begins Friday at UC Davis with kickoff set for 5 p.m. This is the 19th time that CSUB and UC Davis are playing each other with the Roadrunners leading the all-time series 9-6-3. The teams have met six times on the Division I level with the record standing a 2-2-2 between the squads. The Aggies defeated the Roadrunners 2-1 in double overtime last season in Bakersfield.
UC Davis is 0-2 after dropping a 6-0 decision to Seattle U last Friday and a 3-0 match to No. 10 Washington last Sunday. Matt Wisenfarth has taken four shots to lead UC Davis.
The Roadrunners will travel the 16 miles from Davis to Sacramento on Sunday for a 1 p.m. match at Sacramento State. This is the 15th time that CSUB and Sacramento State are playing men's soccer. The Roadrunners lead the all-time series 7-5-2. CSUB has played the Hornets every year at the Division I level since 2008. The Roadrunners have won five in a row in the series, outscoring Sacramento State 19-0 during the span.
The Hornets are 0-2 after losing matches at SMU (2-0) and Tulsa (2-1) last weekend. Sacramento State will host San Jose State on Friday before welcoming the Roadrunners to Sacramento. Cylus Sandoval has scored the lone Hornets' goal and leads the team in shots with two.
Denver defeated CSUB Bakersfield 4-0 in the 2015 men's soccer opener for both schools Saturday night at Ciber Field. Andre Shinyashiki scored from 12 yards out in the 12th minute of the first half to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. Denver went up 2-0 on an own goal by CSUB in the 24th minute. Shinyashiki's header off a cross 59 seconds into the second half put DU up 3-0. Cole Stevenson scored off a turnover in the 87th minute to make it the final four-goal margin.
