BAKERSFIELD, Calif.-- A pair of Colorado-based teams will play host to the Roadrunner women's soccer team this weekend. CSU Bakersfield will take on Colorado College Friday before heading to face Air Force Sunday.
“Another tough road trip for us this weekend,” said Gary Curneen, Head Coach of the 'Runners. “Both games will stretch us to the limit and that's exactly what we want in the last weekend before conference play.” CSUB will open Western Athletic Conference action Saturday, Sept. 26, at home against Grand Canyon.
Colorado College entered the week with a 1-5-1 record after a tie at Weber State and an overtime loss against Kansas at home last week. Sarah Schweiss and Lauren Milliet are tied for the team lead with three points apiece while the Tigers have fives goals, each from a different scorer this season. Louisa Mackenzie has played every minute in front of the goal for the Tigers while allowing 13 goals for a 1.76 goals against average.
The Air Force Falcons currently have a 2-4-0 record, but will face Baylor at home on Friday before meeting the 'Runners on Sunday. Brooke Rittman and Ally Swift both lead the Falcons with a pair of goals while the former has a team-high seven points thanks to three assists. Air Force has used three goalkeepers, but Alex Kahalley has earned the majority of playing time. She has allowed six of the Falcons' nine goals allowed this year.
The Roadrunners (1-4-1) suffered a close loss to Hawai'i last week on the road and will look to gain momentum as they head into conference play. “If we can keep passing the ball like we have been doing, along with creating chances and sustaining our defensive intensity, I have no doubts that we will give ourselves a great opportunity to get a couple of results,” said Cureen.
The match against Colorado College will begin at 4 p.m. (MDT) on Friday while the 'Runners will kick off against Air Force Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m. (MDT).
