DENVER—Denver defeated CSUB Bakersfield 4-0 in the 2015 men's soccer opener for both schools Saturday night at Ciber Field.

Andre Shinyashiki scored from 12 yards out in the 12th minute of the first half to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. Denver went up 2-0 on an own goal by CSUB in the 24th minute.   

Shinyashiki's header off a cross 59 seconds into the second half put DU up 3-0. Cole Stevenson scored off a turnover in the 87th minute to make it the final four-goal margin.

“It was a fair result,” said CSUB head coach Richie Grant. “We got exactly what we deserved from the game. We need to start fresh tomorrow and use this result to motivate us for the rest of the season.”

The Roadrunners head to UC Davis next Friday for a 5 p.m. kick. CSU Bakersfield opens at home Sept. 11 when the Roadrunners host Loyola Marymount at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at Vallitix.com.
