CSUB Continues Season With 2 Matches In Washington

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.-- The 2015 CSU Bakersfield women's soccer season enters its second week as the Roadrunner women are traveling to Washington for a pair of road games. The 'Runners will meet Eastern Washington Friday evening before facing Gonzaga Sunday afternoon.

“We are really excited about the opportunity to play against quality this weekend,” said Gary Curneen, Head Coach of the 'Runners. “Getting results on the road is a huge mental and physical challenge, so, we will have a good idea of where we are come Sunday night. We have made some good progress this week on the practice field and everyone is looking forward to testing ourselves against the best.”

After cruising to a 4-0 win over Humboldt State to open the regular season, CSUB will face a stiff jump in competition this weekend. Eastern Washington is off to a quick start with back-to-back road wins to open its season. After EWU downed UTEP 2-1, fellow WAC member New Mexico State pushed the Eagles to double overtime. EWU triumphed in the final minutes, earning a 2-1 victory.

Just two games into the young season, the Eagles already have four different goal scorers in Devan Talley, Tasha Luu, Chloe Williams, and Emily Bringgold. Mallory Taylor has seen all 200 minutes between the posts for Eastern Washington. The junior transfer has a goals against average of just 0.90 so far this season while making 13 saves in the first two matches.

In Spokane, the 'Runners will meet a strong Gonzaga squad for a second consecutive season. In 2014, CSUB pushed the Bulldogs to double overtime but fell 2-1. This season, Gonzaga has played just one match, a 1-1 draw against Nevada. The 'Runners look to earn their first win in program history against the Bulldogs (0-3).

The match against Eastern Washington on Friday is slated for a 4 p.m. start while the 'Runners will kick off against Gonzaga Sunday at 1 p.m. Visit the CSUB women's soccer schedule page for links to live stats for both matches as well as free, live video coverage of the match against Gonzaga.
