PALO ALTO, Calif.-Amir Bashti scored in the 78th minute for the Stanford breaking a scoreless tie before the No. 8-ranked Cardinal added one more tally in the 86th minute in a 2-0 exhibition win over the CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners Monday night.

The first goal of the evening came after a midfield takeaway by Stanford's Foster Langsdorf who then fed the ball to Bashti who scored in the far right corner. Eight minutes later Sam Werner took the ball up the right side before beating the CSUB defense for a goal on the right side of the net.

The game was an exhibition for both squads and neither the result or statistics will count in the season totals.

"This was a great preseason match, we had some solid performances and our team shape was good for long periods of the game," said CSUB head coach Richie Grant. "Their press forced us to concentrate all game."

"We leave here improved and we'll continue to get better in preseason."

The Roadrunners kept pace with Stanford in the first half despite being outshot 7-1 including a 4-0 margin in shots on goal. Nicolas Clever turned in a masterful first half turning away all four attempts by Stanford while leading the 'Runners to a scoreless tie at the half. It wasn't until the 78th minute that the Cardinal finally managed to score after several substitutions by both squads.

Stanford outshot the Roadrunners 21-5 on the evening including a 12-2 edge in shots on goal. Jamie Carey-Morrell (60th) and Julian Zamora (82nd) had the two lone shots on goal for CSUB. Nico Corti made both saves for Stanford.

CSUB returns home Thursday to close out the exhibition portion of their schedule hosting Vanguard University at The Main Soccer Field at 7 P.M. presented by 105.9 La Preciosa. All fans in attendance will receive a 2015 schedule poster and are invited for post game autographs and photos on the field after the game.
