Box Score FULLERTON, Calif.—Five Cal State Fullerton pitchers combined on a four-hitter as the Titans defeated CSU Bakersfield 11-0 Wednesday night.
Connor Seabold, started and went the first 5.2 innings. He gave up two hits before being relieved by Gibbs in the sixth. Gibbs had CSUB runners on the corners before getting the final out of the inning. Miles Chambers pitched a one-hit seventh before giving way to Willie Kuhl in the eighth. Chad Hockin finished the game, giving up a hit in the ninth.
Leading 2-0 with two outs in the first, Cal State Fullerton (10-9) took advantage of a CSUB error that prolonged the inning. Hunter Cullen doubled to drive in two runs which was immediately followed by a Timmy Richards single that drove in the fifth and six runs. The Titans would score twice in the sixth, added a run in the seventh, and scored twice in the eighth.
Scott Hurst, Jerrad Bravo, and Dustin Vaught each charted two hits for Cal State Fullerton. Cullen tallied three RBI's. James Barragan (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Stockdale HS) took the loss. Only four of the eight runs Barragan gave up were earned and he struck out eight in 5.2 innings.
“Tonight we played poorly on defense quickly in the first inning and did nothing offensively, so we wasted a great pitching performance from James,” said CSUB head coach Bill Kernen. “He had great stuff, great command, and really competed and did a great job on the mound for us. We're going to try to take that away as a positive for the future regarding him and the pitching staff.”
