BAKERSFIELD, Calif.— The Roadrunner women's swimming and diving team closed out 2015 with a dual meet against San José State on Thursday morning. CSU Bakersfield fell to SJSU 155.5-133.5 while the 'Runner women competed in their final home meet of the calendar year.
“I think, as a whole, we did pretty good,” said Chris Hansen, Bakersfield's Director of Swimming. “Not having Dylana Milobar swim the breaststroke events due to an injury hurt our momentum a bit. However, it was great to see Paola Hernandez swim a fast 200 back and Michaela Paige swim a fast 100 fly. As usual, the lady divers where suburb.”
Hansen also expressed great appreciation for his 'Runner seniors who swam in their final meet at the Hillman Aquatics Center: “Kelsey Lange, Nicolette Goncalves, Chrisy Vo, Meghan van Raalte, Eleanor Cummings and Michaela showed us today why they are so important to this program. I'm excited to have another month and half with these ladies! They are truly an inspiration to this program.”
Hernandez, a junior from Lompoc, Calif., took a victory in the 200 IM for the 'Runners on Thursday. She posted a winning time of 2:11.16, a whole second faster than the next closest competitor. Hernandez finished second in the 100 back (59.44) as well as the 200 back (2:08.56).
Carlee Burks, a junior diver from Bakersfield, qualified for the NCAA Zone E meet at the Inland Empire Diving Invitational and faced off against a fellow qualifier in SJSU's Cari Reiswig. Burks took the 1-meter competition on Thursday with her second-best score of the season, cruising past Reiswig, 276.53-248.93. SJSU's diver won the 3-meter with Burks in a close second at 282.12, a season-best for the Centennial High School graduate.
Paige, also a native of Lompoc, Calif., posted a time of 58.67 in the 100 fly to earn a win on Thursday. She also finished second in the 200 free (1:55.35) and third in the 100 free (54.43) for CSUB.
The 'Runner women will be back in action on Sunday, Jan. 3, when CSUB heads north for a dual against Fresno State. The men willq join the women on Jan. 9 for a multi-team meet hosted by UC San Diego.
