Box Score SAN JOSE, Calif.—For the third time this season, the CSU Bakersfield men's soccer team played to a 0-0 tie Saturday afternoon. The point that the Roadrunners (15) received for the tie against San José State secured one of the six Western Athletic Conference Tournament berths in next week's WAC Tournament in Kansas City for CSUB. The tie also allowed the Spartans to reach the WAC Tournament.
San José State outshot the Roadrunners 20-9, but only 10 of the Spartan shots were on goal. CSUB goalie Nicolas Clever was in between the pipes once again for a 0-0 match. Clever made five saves as he recorded his 10th career shutout. Clever is now only 1-of-7 goalies in Roadrunner history to post at least 10 shutouts in a career. Spartans' goalie Felix Petermann made saves on all four CSUB shots on goal.
CSU Bakersfield tallied four corner kicks in overtime and threatened with two shots. San José State also had two shots in overtime including an Eric Mendez attempt that was blocked with five minutes to play in the match.
“The lads showed great concentration to keep a clean sheet,” said CSUB head coach Richie Grant. “We had some good performances today and Hugo Vinales gave us great energy when he came on.”
With three matches to be played this weekend, the final seeding for the WAC tournament will be determined upon the conclusion of action on Sunday. The tournament begins next Thursday with matches at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. (CST) at Missouri-Kansas City. For more information on the seedings head to WACsports.com.
