'Runners Look To Secure WAC Tourney Berth At SJSU

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—The regular season for the CSU Bakersfield men's soccer team concludes Saturday at San José State as the Roadrunners look to secure a WAC Tournament berth. Kick against the Spartans is set for 2 p.m.

Seattle U leads the WAC with 24 points, clinching the WAC regular season championship. SU is followed by Utah Valley with 19. CSUB remains in third place with 14 points.

UNLV, Houston Baptist and the Spartans are tied for fourth with 13 points. UIW, which is not eligible for the league tournament is seventh with 12 points. Air Force and Missouri-Kansas City follow with 10 points. Grand Canyon is 10th (9) with UTRGV (6) sitting in 11th.

CSUB can clinch a WAC Tournament berth with a win or a tie against the Spartans. If the Spartans defeat the Roadrunners, CSUB can still get into the tournament with a loss by UNLV, Houston Baptist, or Air Force.

The Roadrunners split a pair of matches last season. CSUB defeated the Spartans 5-1 in Bakersfield before San José State handed the 'Runners a 2-0 loss in San Jose.

Led by former CSUB coach Simon Tobin, the Spartans are in a three-way tie for fourth in the WAC with 13 points. San José State is led by Rory Knibbs who is tied with Seattle U's David Olsen for second in the conference in goals scored with 11. Spartans' goalie Emmanuel Espinoza is fourth in the WAC in saves (49).

CSUB split a pair of matches last week, winning 4-2 at Houston Baptist before losing 3-0 at UTRGV. Through the first 16 matches this season, the Roadrunners and their opponents have each scored 24 goals.
