BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—CSU Bakersfield scored two goals in the first eight minutes as the Roadrunners defeated Pacific 2-0 in men's soccer action Sunday night.

CSUB struck first in the sixth minute. Daniel Drier forced a Tigers' turnover, took possession of the ball, and sent a pass to Julian Zamora. Zamora's blast went off Pacific goalie Curtis Goldsmith and went in for a 1-0 Roadrunner lead at the 5:56 mark.

Drier scored the remaining CSUB goal at exactly 8:00 when he received a Simon Doherty pass and made it 2-0 from five yards out.

“I thought we were opportunistic,” said CSUB head coach Richie Grant. “The chances fell and we took them.”

Pacific pressed throughout the match, outshooting the Roadrunners 13-10. CSUB freshman goalie Oscar Gloveus made his first start a shutout. He made four saves on all four of the Tigers' shots on goal including a Triston Blackmon that was right in front of the CSUB net in the 67th minute. Gloveus was also able to knock down three Tigers' crossing passes that could have turned into Pacific scoring chances.

“We needed our goalkeeper in the second half,” Grant said. “Oscar came up really big for us. Even though we were looking for number three, he was able to protect what we had. When you score first particularly early and back it up with a second goal and give up nothing, it's a good night at the office.”

CSUB hosts Grand Canyon Friday night as part of a doubleheader with the Roadrunner women's soccer team.  The women's match begins at 5 p.m. with the CSUB-GCU match scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start. Tickets are available at Vallitix.com. The game will also be featured on the WAC Digital Network.
