BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—The CSU Bakersfield men's soccer team faces WAC co-leaders Seattle U and Utah Valley this weekend.
Friday's match in Seattle is part of a doubleheader that features the CSUB men's and women's programs facing the SU men's and women's teams. The men's match is set for 7:30 p.m.
Entering this week, Seattle U is ranked 14th in the TopDrawerSoccer Top 25, 20th in the CollegeSoccerNews Top 30, and 24th in the NSCAA Top 25 Poll. The Redhawks are 10-3 and are tied for first in the WAC with Utah Valley with a 3-1 league mark. Hamza Haddadi is tied with UNLV's Danny Musovski for the league lead in goals (8) and is tied with teammate Michael Roberts and Musovski for second in the conference in points (18).
This is the 20th all-time meeting between CSUB and Seattle U. The Roadrunners lead the series 9-7-3 after the teams played to a pair of ties in a five-day span last season.
CSUB returns home Sunday for a 1 p.m. match against Utah Valley. The Wolverines and the Roadrunners played twice last season in UVU's first varsity season. Utah Valley won the regular season matchup by a 3-1 count in Bakersfield. The Roadrunners returned the favor in the WAC Tournament, defeating UVU 1-0 in the first round of the tournament.
In their second season, the Wolverines reached the top 25 last week before falling out after a 1-1 conference weekend. Utah Valley is 10-3 and is tied for first in the WAC with Seattle U. Aaron Meyer is tied for the WAC lead UIW's Dylan Kelley (6) in assists. Four Wolverines have scored four goals (Aaron Buxton, Paul Hoffmeister, Karson Payton, and Aaron Meyer and are tied for 10th in the conference in goals scored.
The Roadrunners went 1-0-1 last week. CSUB defeated Grand Canyon 2-1 on Friday night before playing a 1-1 tie against UNLV Sunday night. Oscar Gloveus is now 2-0-1 as the 'Runner goalie and made a combined 13 saves last weekend.
