BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--The Bakersfield women's soccer team hosts Northern Iowa Friday night at 7 p.m. before traveling to No. 23 Long Beach State Sunday night (7 p.m.).

Northern Iowa defeated Bakersfield 3-1 on Oct. 7, 2011 in the only other previous meeting between the two schools in women's soccer. The Panthers are 1-3 entering the weekend. Northern Iowa lost a pair of matches last weekend in Wisconsin (3-1 at UW-Green Bay, 3-0 at Wisconsin). Annie Dale (1 goal, 2 points), leads the Panthers in scoring and shots (10).

The all-time series between Bakersfield and Long Beach State is tied 1-1-1. The teams are playing for the first time since the 2009 season when the teams played to a 1-1 tie in Long Beach.

The 49ers are 2-1-1 and are ranked 23rd in the NSCAA/Continental Tire top 25 this week. The Beach defeated Georgia and Denver last week. Long Beach State hosts San Diego Friday night before taking on Bakersfield.

Freshman Ashley Gonzales was named the CS360 National Primetime Player of the Week while junior Melanie Fox, meanwhile, was named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week. The duo swept Big West Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors this week.

This is the fifth time, Bakersfield is playing a nationally ranked women's soccer team at the Division I level. CSUB is 1-3 in the previous four meeting against teams in the top 25.
