Box Score ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—Christian Duarte's (Jr., Houston, Texas, Clear Springs HS) goal 3:46 into overtime capped off a comeback victory for Bakersfield as the Roadrunners defeated Drexel 2-1 in the final match of the University of New Mexico TLC Plumbing and Utility Invitational Sunday afternoon.
After playing a scoreless first half, Aaron Thompson chipped the ball into Colin McGlynn who slit it through the near post from three yards out to give Drexel (2-3-2) a 1-0 lead 2:50 into the second half. Jamie Carey-Morrell (Fr., Stevenage, England, The Nobel School) tied for the 'Runners (5-1-1) in the 65th minute when he connected on a 20-yarder that went in past the far post on the upper left corner of the Dragons' goal. Simon Doherty (Jr., West Lothian, Scotland, FDU) was credited with the assist on the play.
Duarte's golden goal was a low shot from 20 yards out which went in left of the Drexel goalkeeper. David Velasquez (R-Sr., Los Angeles, Calif., Locke HS) earned the assist. Bakersfield outshot Drexel 20-6 (6-1 on goal) and held a 6-2 corner kicks' advantage.
Duarte, Carey-Morrell, and Joe Masumiya (R-Sr., Lakewood, Calif., Lakewood HS) were selected to the All-Tournament team. New Mexico and CSUB both had the same 1-0-1 tournament record, but the Lobos were awarded the team title on the tiebreaker, goal differential.
Bakersfield heads to Northridge for a Thursday night matchup against CSUN beginning at 7 p.m.
